Welcome to

Teaching and Learning Languages: A Guide

This project is funded by the Australian Government Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations. It is a national initiative developed as part of the National Statement and Plan for Languages Education in Australian Schools 2005-2008. It aims to provide a set of resources to support the improvement of the teaching and learning of languages in Australian schools.

The resources available on this site include:

  • Teaching and Learning Languages: A Guide
  • companion documents that provide examples of the key ideas of the Guide as applied in the six most commonly taught languages: Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Italian and Japanese
  • a handbook to facilitate the use of the Guide and the companion documents.

The Guide is also available separately in print form. All other resources may be downloaded directly from this site for off-line viewing or printing.

We invite you to find out more about this project by exploring the site.
